The Life Ball in Vienna was the largest charity event in Europe for people infected with HIV and suffering from AIDS.
Behind the Life Ball was the charitable association LIFE+ (previously Aids Life), founded in 1992 by those affected themselves, make-up artist Gery Keszler and physician Torgom Petrosian († 1993). The ball was held annually from 1993 to 2019 at the Vienna City Hall or Rathausplatz, with the exception of a break in 2016.
LIFE+ or AIDS Life supported non-profit organizations working for HIV-positive people and those suffering from AIDS. In addition, a stated goal of LIFE+ or AIDS Life was to educate the public about the dangers of HIV/AIDS and raise their awareness of the disease.
The show was supported by many national and international celebrities, actors, politicians, singers, fashion designers, models, etc. It was the biggest event for the LGBT community in Austria.
